Over 2,000 kgs of fruit from the north of Cyprus seized

On Saturday, police officials seized more than 2.3 tonnes of fruit found stored in a wholesale market in Nicosia, believed to have been smuggled from the occupied areas.

This produce was located early on Saturday during a joint operation by the police, the Customs Department and the Agriculture Ministry after a tip off that a fruit and vegetable seller smuggles fruit from the north and sells it at his stall at the Nicosia wholesale market.

Police officers raided the business at around 3am and found 2,343 kg of fruit: tomatoes, apples, nectarines, peaches, and plums. Cyprus-mail.com reports that the produce was seized and investigations are ongoing.
