"Organic king trumpets are an interesting addition to the existing assortment"

Viennese wholesale market company Lazov has been firmly established in the mushroom trade for many years. The family business has specialized in the procurement and marketing of both conventional and forest mushrooms. Recently, the selection was extended by biological king trumpet mushrooms, regionally cultivated no less, says junior manager Yordan Lazov.

Normally, the majority of the seasonal product selection comes from Eastern Europe, particularly where it concerns forest mushrooms. "The forest mushroom season will be coming to an end soon. We are only still receiving porcini mushrooms and golden chanterelles sporadically, which are marketed at high prices. About two weeks ago, porcini mushrooms were still traded for 15 euro/kg, but now one will pay about double," Lazov says on the current mushroom market.

Regionally cultivated organic king trumpet mushrooms are now offered all year round in the Viennese wholesale market.

"Our customers are increasingly looking for something new and surprising outside the forest mushroom season. Because of this, we looked around to see where we could expand our assortment. This is how we came across the Marchfelder Bio-Edelpilze cultivation company. For us as traders, it is an interesting addition to the existing assortment."

Supplement to game dishes
After an on-site visit and good discussions, the cooperation finally came about at the beginning of this month. "For our main customer, the gastronomy industry, organic king trumpet mushrooms are a great product that can be offered as a side dish to game dishes, especially at this time of year. We purchase different calibers from our new partner, but the larger containers are still the most popular. After all, the catering trade usually needs goods in bulk."
