Spanish group Intersur seeks to grow in Europe and the Middle East

The Intersur group, which was created by Intersur 2011 and Agromar Hispana, already produces more than 100,000 tons of potatoes and currently controls the cultivation of potatoes on 3,000 hectares in France and Spain, guaranteeing production throughout the whole year.

Its potatoes can be found in practically all supermarkets in Spain, in much of Europe, in Kuwait, and Dubai. The group's objective is to increase its production to 150,000 tons per year in three years and expand the destination markets in Eastern Europe, where it currently operates in Poland and the Czech Republic, and in the Middle East.

In addition to Intersur and Agromar, the group is made up of the Intersur Logistics company that was recently created to provide logistics services to its clients, and the French subsidiary Agromar France. By integrating its commercial teams, the group has changed its business plan and strategy. The group had a turnover of 48 million euro in 2019. "The turnover in 2020 will depend on the prices of potatoes, which are low this year. Our production will be 10 to 12% higher than last year," the company stated.

Currently, its production is located in Andalusia and Castilla-León, and it hopes to start it in Cartagena shortly. The company rents farms to grow its production and also reaches privileged agreements with producers in each area, both in Spain and in France. "In the latter case, we give the farmers the seed, we tell them how they have to sow, what land they have to sow and we do technical monitoring of all crops so that we are 100% responsible for that production."

Intersur has also decided to introduce onions for the Middle East in its product portfolio. "Beyond the product, those countries value management. We are reaching agreements with producers to send potatoes and onions to the Middle East," they stated.
