Broom Frio cooling and distribution facility

Chilean company gets foothold in the Netherlands

Op 1 May, the Chilean Broom Group acquired the Dutch company, Saphir's, refrigeration and distribution facilities. These are in Ridderkerk, the Netherlands. They planned to roll out Broom Frio Ridderkerk. And on 1 October, they launched this new company. Broom Frio Ridderkerk's blue colors have replaced the Saphir green. "The only green that remains is that of logistics partner LCL. And, of course, the limes and grapes that will regularly pass through the cold stores," says Brian Bakker, Broom Frio Ridderkerk's director.

Brian will manage the two independent companies, Broom Frio Ridderkerk and B & L's, everyday business. There's an increasing demand for storage and additional services in the area. These are needed to support the growing volumes of fruit and vegetable products. These come into Europe via the Dutch and Belgian ports and terminals. The cooling warehouse has a capacity of 2,700 pallets with 14 refrigerated stores. It also has repackaging space and 11 docks. "We can cool at all temperatures, and all areas are air-conditioned," says Brian.

“Broom Frio's storage and distribution facilities are combined with LCL's logistics service. That allows our group to operate entirely independently on the market. So, we can add even more value for our clients. That's for both those in the countries of origin and Europe. That's all part of our vision - to have as few operators as possible between cultivation companies and retailers' shelves," explains Brian.

Sharon Kucharek is LCL Nederland's commercial manager. She's delighted with Broom Frio's launch and with LCL's logistics service role. It means they can offer more door-to-door services. That's to both existing and new clients. They can do so thanks to the extensive storage and distribution facility. "Broom Frio Ridderkerk is a result of the Broom Group' strategy. They've implemented this over the past three years. It's aimed at more origin and destination services and facilities for fresh produce. Our next expansion will be in Peru later this year," says Sharon.
