Jorge Valenzuela Trebilcock, the president of the Federation of Fruit Producers of Chile, Fedefruta, stated that they were thrilled to hear that the United States had approved implementing the Systems Approach in the production of blueberries from Ñuble and Biobio; a wish that came true just in time for the upcoming season in Chile.
"The Federation is convinced that the Ñuble Region will become the country's main fruit and vegetable pole within a few years. The fact that the United States finally approved the Systems Approach for blueberries from this area will strengthen and speed up this process," stated Valenzuela.
The Systems Approach allows producers to implement various approaches and alternatives to export their fruit without having to fumigate it with methyl bromide, "which better guarantees their quality, allowing it to have a better position in the US market improving its possibilities of getting better prices," Valenzuela stated.
"This approval by the USDA entails new procedures that blueberry producers are going to have to rigorously follow to respond to the expectations of the US authorities and buyers," he added.
Fedefruta will participate on October 15 in the 'Opportunities that the System Approach opens for the blueberries from Ñuble and Biobio in the US' Seminar, organized by the Ñuble Regional Export Council, led by ProChile in the region. The procedures to access the Systems Approach and other points related to the production of blueberries in the area will be discussed in the Seminar.
