Robert Greeve, Anaco & Greeve:

"Good sales of bananas, but large volumes cause price pressure"

When the Corona crisis hit Europe, bananas were at the top of everyone's shopping list. Now, banana sales have stabilized, according to Robert Greeve of Anaco & Greeve, but are overall still a lot higher than in previous years.

"Consumption is still good, but the kilos supplied are also quite large at the moment. As a result, there is currently some price pressure," says the importer. "There is also a strike going on in Costa Rica at the moment, which may cause there to be a little less supply in the coming weeks."

According to Robert, the share of organic bananas decreased somewhat after the Corona outbreak, but is now back in 'full swing'. "That is still a growing segment," concludes Robert. Anaco & Greeve sells bananas to retail, wholesale and a small portion to food service.
