Dublin based grower Donnelly Fruit and Veg has landed the contract to supply around 50,000 Irish grown pumpkins to ALDI for the third year in a row, according to local press the contract is worth over 150,000 Euro. Aldi has forecast that it will sell over 250,000 pumpkins across its 143 stores nationwide in the lead up to Halloween this year.
Paul Hussey from Donnellys said that the growing season had been very good this year, the quality was looking good and volumes should be as expected.
“We are hoping sales will be good and not affected by COVID restrictions, if people can’t go out trick or treating they might make more of a night of it at home. Halloween falls on our mid-term break which we hope will boost sales.”
In general the Halloween ‘holiday’ has been becoming more popular in recent years with people decorating inside and outside with ornamental squash and pumpkins.
