Alibaba promotes innovative retail in China

Alibaba recently organized the 2020 global investors summit. At this summit, Alibaba showcased new achievements in innovative retail: Alibaba offers fruit, vegetables, and other fresh produce in more than 200 Hema stores throughout the country. Alibaba services more than 290 million members via Eleme, Tmall, and Hema shops. And the Alibaba distribution network with more than 80 thousand relay stations connects all the major cities in China and reaches deeper into communities than traditional supermarkets. Hema CEO Hou Yi revealed the latest data: Hema expanded the number of stores from 159 stores to 227 in only one year. The number of annual Hema members increased from 20 million to more than 25 million. The average income per store increased by 32%. "We have developed more than 1,000 store-brand products. We have purchase teams in north America, Europe, and Korea. Nearly 30% of our products are imported from all over the globe."

At the same time, with already more than 550 orchards and farms, Hema also constructed a national fresh produce processing center. Hema further owns 3 cold storage facilities that integrate processing and distribution, as well as 41 room temperature or refrigerated warehouses, 6 large warehouses for the temporary storage of fresh seafood, and 16 processing centers.

Alibaba's innovative retail already includes Taobao, Tmall, Hema, Eleme, Koupai, and Alipay. These e-commerce platforms reach a large and varied consumer group.
