At the moment, the price growth trend continues on the Russian potato market, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. The project experts also say that this week, the price growth rate has accelerated remarkably.
Russian growers are currently selling their potatoes for 11-18 rubles / kg ($ 0.14-0.24 / kg), which is on average 17% more expensive than a week earlier.
The reason for the rise in potato prices on the Russian market is the growing demand from wholesale companies, which continue to buy these products for storage. At the same time, in some regions, due to heavy rains, the harvesting of potatoes has become somewhat complicated, and this is putting some extra pressure on prices.
It is worth noting that potato prices in Russia are already 38% higher on average than at the end of September 2019. Key market players say that this price difference is due to a lower yield caused by unfavorable weather conditions. Moreover, many market players are confident that in the near future, the rate in the rise of these prices will noticeably accelerate, given the reports of a possible shortage of high-quality potatoes on the Russian market.
