China: Prices for frozen vegetable exports to Europe are higher than last year

The frozen vegetable market has benefited enormously from advancements in deep-freeze technology.

Firstly, the loss of nutrients is growing smaller. The vegetables are processed near the farm immediately after the harvest, which gives the vegetables less time to breathe and gives micro-organisms less time to grow in comparison with fresh vegetables transported over long distances. In this way, the nutrients remain locked inside the vegetables.

Secondly, frozen vegetables are easier to store. They can be kept in refrigerated shipping containers for periods from several months up to two years. They are also easy to store in the freezer at home, without worries about vegetables spoiling.

In addition, frozen vegetables are easy to prepare, which is an advantage in this day and age when convenience comes first. The vegetables are ready for consumption after thawing in a microwave, or can be stir-fried for consumption. Furthermore, many frozen vegetables are combined in a delicious mix. Frozen vegetables cut down significantly on the time it takes to prepare and eat a meal.

"The export prize of frozen vegetables is quite high this year. This is mainly because the price of vegetables went up. Everybody knows that China has suffered from extreme weather conditions this year, such as flooding and hailstorms. The impact of extreme weather conditions limited the overall production volume of Chinese vegetables, which in turn pushed the market price up." This is according to Mr. Ross of Rizhao Green Extension Food Co., Ltd.

"We mainly export our frozen products to Europe. We export frozen onions, garlic, and ginger. The export volume of these products was quite large this year. That is mainly because consumers across the globe understand how these products help to strengthen their immune systems. At the same time, we also supplied a small volume of frozen vegetables to the domestic market. Our sales volume in the domestic market has grown every year in the last few years, which helped spread our name among Chinese consumers."
