Chinese onion export prices not likely to fall in coming weeks

The export price of onions has increased significantly over the recent weeks. There are several seasons for this. First of all, the Covid-19 lockdowns were lifted some time ago, and demand from the catering industry has begun to increase.

At the same time, with logistics at the ports returning to normal, exports have become smoother. In addition, with the new season crop flooding into the market, buyers are actively purchasing. Under the combined effect of these three factors, market prices have been continuously driven up.

"Our onions are mainly from our own growing centers located in Gansu and Jinxiang production areas. The varieties include red and yellow onions. The production season in Gansu lasts from mid-July to February of the following year, and the production of this season is stable and on par with the previous season, as the crop was not affected by extreme weather during the production process,” Mr. Jack Meng of Jining Greenfarm Import and Export co., Ltd. said.

“Onion prices have been rising for some time. For overseas buyers, the current price is completely acceptable. Overall, the demand from overseas markets is very strong, so I don’t think prices will fall back in the coming weeks.”

“Our onions are mainly exported to Southeast Asia and the Middle East under our own brand of 'Greenfarm’, mostly in sizes 5-7cm." Jining Greenfarm Import and Export Co.,Ltd. is a company with 18 years of experience specializing in processing and exporting onion and garlic products.
