Olympic Fruit fire hits office, operational area spared

This morning around 5:00 a.m. a serious fire broke out in the office building of Olympic Fruit and their neighbours at the ZHZ Trade Center in Barendrecht. When the fire brigade arrived, flames were rising from the roof of the fruit and vegetable trader. Due to the size of the fire, it was scaled up to "very large fire". Despite this, the fire, which mainly raged in the roof near the canteen, was quickly under control. At 9:00 am the signal 'fire mastered' was given. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No one was injured in the fire.

In a short response, Lennart van den Heuvel indicates that the company is doing well considering the circumstances. "The damage is mainly in the office building. The exact extent of the damage needs to be inventoried, but it does not seem irreparable. Fortunately, the shed has not been affected and the first trucks are already at the dock. From this afternoon the shed will be fully restored. HillFresh offered the solution to temporarily move some of the office staff in with them, so the operation hardly came to a standstill at all. It was a shock, but all in all we seem to have come off reasonably well. We thank everyone for the compassion and support they have shown us in this trying time."
