The Ayacucho Regional Directorate of Agriculture has announced the launch of the Paltos Zona Sur Project in the province of Lucanas that aims to improve and expand the region's avocado cultivation productive capacity.
According to Kennet Martinez, head of the project, the plan focuses on achieving the development of rural agriculture in the southern area of the department, especially in the districts of Leoncio Prado, Santa Lucia, Saisa, and San Cristobal, benefitting more than 4,500 producers.
The project contemplates work in a total of 797 hectares of crops, the construction of four flying nurseries, and the installation of 60,000 avocado seedlings in the field.
Vladimir Ore Ruiz, the project supervisor, stressed that they will seek to produce high-quality seedlings of the Fuerte and Hass varieties. This will positively change the region's agricultural landscape, which still hasn't reached its potential due to economic and technological deficiencies.
