There has been a notable increase in the frozen fruit segment in Peru's 2019/2020 strawberry campaign. The country exported 13,900,000 kilos of frozen strawberries worth $ 25,689,090, showing an increase of 19% in volume and 24% in value over the 2018/2019 campaign, stated the president of the consulting firm Inform@cción, Fernando Cilloniz Benavides.
Peru's main frozen strawberry producing region was Lima (Huaral and Cañete), as 91% of the total export volume, equivalent to 12,638,864 kilos, came from this region. Other regions that produce frozen strawberries are Ancash (772,351 kilos), Callao (328,381 kilos), Ica, and Arequipa.
The main markets for this product in the 2019/2020 campaign were the United States, with 7,596,921 kilos; Canada, with 3,765,783 kilos; Japan, with 1,168,834 kilos; South Korea, with 510,489 kilos, and Brazil, among others.
“North America (the United States and Canada) is by far the main buyer of Peruvian frozen strawberries. Both markets account for 82% of the total export volume,” Cilloniz Benavides highlighted.
The leading frozen strawberry exporting company in Peru in the 2019/2020 campaign was Mebol with shipments of 6,908,858 kilos, i.e. 50% of the total exported volume. It was followed by Frozen Foods, with 2,234,886 kilos; Del Ande Alimentos, with 2,255,377 kilos; Agricola Cuyuma, with nearly 2,000,000 kilos; Agroworld, Gofresh, Agricola y Ganadera Chavin de Huantar, B&R Foods, and Naturandina del Peru, among others.
