In the first eight months of 2020, 666,000 tons of fresh fruit -most importantly citrus- were delivered to foreign markets, says Mediterranean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Chairman of the Board Association, Nejdat Sin. This led to revenues of 339.8 million dollars in foreign currency.
Sin said: “There are currently no restrictions on citrus exports. In our meetings with ministry officials, we got the impression that there will be no restrictions on citrus products in the upcoming period. We anticipate that it will be a more fruitful season compared to last year.”
Most citrus goes to Russia
Sin also spoke about the export routes: “… We achieved a 32 percent increase in citrus exports as a sector between August compared to the same period of the previous year. We made the most citrus exports to Russia with a value of 119.4 million dollars. Ukraine ranked second with $ 33.4 million and Iraq ranked third with $ 32.4 million.”
“Italy came first with an increase of 539 percent and a value of 3.6 million dollars in citrus exports. This country was followed by Belarus with an increase of 212 percent and a value of 4.1 million dollars, and Poland with an increase of 197 percent and $ 18 million.”
