Why did Chinese chili exports decrease in July?

China's dried chili exports in July 2020 were far from optimistic. Although the prices this year are significantly lower than last year, international demand has not increased. Among the countries that import dried chili peppers from China, the top ten countries and regions are Malaysia, Mexico, Thailand, the United States, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Djibouti, and Singapore.

The purchase volume of these countries has increased by varying degrees year on year, but the total export volume in July decreased compared with the same period last year, mainly due to the fact that the five countries of India, Turkey, Italy, Hungary, and the United Arab Emirates did not import from China as a result of the continued Covid-19 pandemic and the tension in the international relations.

In addition, quality issues have arisen as it was difficult to preserve peppers in high-temperature weather, while some countries have high export standards, so importers reduced their purchases, resulting in a drop in export volume by about 10% compared with the same period last year.
