The first few ads for pumpkins appeared in the US this week. There was also a batch of ads for pumpkin spice foods and potted mums.
Corn, berries, melons, squash, clementines, tangerines, grapes, and tree fruit were prominent. Local produce was well promoted, primarily from the Northern tier states.
Total ad numbers this week were 324,871, a 3% increase from last week’s 314,555. Last year’s total ad numbers for the same week were 21% higher than this year. This week, only 1% of retailers declined to publish a weekly ad due to Covid-19.
The total number of ads broken out by commodity groups: fruit 195,436 (60% of all ads), onions and potatoes 18,743 (6%), vegetables 103,759 (32%), herbs 1,104, ornamentals 5,829, and hemp 617.
The number of ads for organic produce was 47,787, 15% of total ads.
