This week, white cabbage prices have started to rise in Ukraine, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. Market participants link this increase to the start of the off-season period. Mid-season varieties are gradually disappearing from the market and growers plan to start harvesting the late cabbages in early September.
At the moment, producers in the main growing regions are selling their cabbages for 3-5 UAH / kg ($ 0.11-0.18 / kg), which is on average 22% more expensive than at the end of the previous working week.
Producers offering late cabbage varieties have thus been given the opportunity to increase their prices, as the batches of late varieties cannot possibly meet the demand in this segment. At the same time, however, prices haven't increased too quickly, as white cabbage growers fear that such a move would cause a deterioration of the product's sales.
It is worth noting that despite the price increase, white cabbage in Ukraine is still on average 14% cheaper than at the end of August last year.
