Polish retailer Biedronka sold 44% more organic vegetables in first quarter of 2020

Poles are increasingly looking for natural food in stores, especially if it's tasty and affordable. Retailer Biedronka aims to meet that demand with a wide range of products marketed under the store's own brand goBIO. The chain's customers are already familiar with the blueberries, carrots, onions, potatoes and mushrooms sold with this label. Now goBIO is expanding with seasonal Polish apples.

Organic products are becoming trendier. In the first quarter of 2020 alone, organic vegetable sales in the chain's stores increased by 44 percent compared to the same period last year, and in the case of organic fruit, there was an increase of 34 percent.

"We give all Biedronka customers access to high-quality products, including organic ones, promoting good eating habits and the protection of the planet. At the same time, we always guarantee the most attractive prices. It is worth noting that the expansion of the range sold under the goBIO label is the result of our collaboration with a selected group of certified organic farms, so we also support the development of Polish agriculture," says Marek Walencik, director of the fruit and vegetables department at Biedronka.
