Fedefruta's statement about the truckers' strike in Chile

"We understand how drivers and carriers feel today"

The president of the Federation of Fruit Producers of Chile (Fedefruta), Jorge Valenzuela Trebilcock, made the following statement regarding the truckers' strike:

"The agricultural sector in Chile is, now more than ever, a key element in supplying our compatriots during the pandemic. Food has been able to arrive in a timely and sufficient manner to every corner of Chile in these difficult moments."

"This, however, would not be possible without the work of transporters, transport companies, and truck drivers, who are a fundamental part of the logistics chain necessary so that supply is not affected."

"We find the latest acts of violence are despicable, especially the death of a truck driver this year, and last week's attack in which a girl was seriously wounded by gunshot in a cowardly act."

"We at Fedefruta understand the feeling that drove drivers and carriers to go on strike. That's why we once again ask the political, legislative, and judicial authorities to generate security conditions so that activities as strategic as agriculture and transport can be carried out under normal conditions. We also ask that they quickly investigate, find these criminals, arrest them, accuse them, and judge them as corresponds to the rule of law."
