The first Spanish mini figs of the new harvest arrived at Tovano in Maasdijk this week. "It may not be the biggest item in our assortment, but the connoisseurs always know how to appreciate this specialty. Specialists and street traders in particular like to take a few boxes with them. The holidays are over and then they can offer their customers something new," says Richard Strijbis.
"It is a small fig, with a great flavour and for an attractive price. The Spanish figs are slightly earlier than the Turkish ones and it is really a different fig", Richard continues. "It is a real snack fig with a little flour on it. We do carry these Spanish mini figs until February, but traditionally sales are highest in the first weeks of the season."
The prices are slightly higher than last year, but according to the tropical fruit trader, the mini figs remain affordable. "It is a real box trade and many customers take a few boxes with them. Because they are packed per 5 kg, you do not have to purchase large numbers immediately."
