“Furthermore minimize the residual flows”

Optical sorters aren’t the only indispensable machines for potato processors. Many workers should be pleased that peeling machines exist; making this laborious task a thing of the past. Sormac manufactures these machines and processing lines. These are for the vegetable processing industry. They have different potato peeling machines.

“For us, the potato sector is an important fruit and vegetable product group,” says the Dutch company, Sormac’s, Roy Lemmen. “We specialize in designing and building peeling machines. We offer total solutions across the entire line, from storage to packaging. Besides the machines we manufacture ourselves, we have machines like cutting machines and optical sorters, from other builders too.”

“There are two different industries. On the one hand, there’s the industry with places like French fry processors. They use these machines for re-peeling. On the other, there’s the fresh industry. Our peelers have a specially designed drum. So they peel effectively, ensuring higher yields. With peeling, a higher yield is becoming increasingly important because you want to, after all, keep your byproducts to a minimum."

"Collecting data, such as weight and yield, is also becoming more important," adds Roy. "These are the innovations on which we’re working. It’s not like before. Nowadays, clients want to know exactly how the machines will perform and what kind of optimization is possible. These are the developments our R & D department is working on every day.”
