The demolition work has been completed, the necessary drainage has been installed. Last week, the new "CarlsCube" office building at the Karlsruhe wholesale market entered the realization phase - with the ground-breaking ceremony.
"A ground-breaking ceremony with symbolic significance at this location," emphasized Karlsruhe's Mayor for Economic Affairs, Gabriele Luczak-Schwarz: "In a way, the new construction of the traditional family-owned company heralds a new era at the wholesale market site. "Dreßler Bau" will also locate its Rastatt branch here. An analysis of the wholesale market showed that more services and a wider range of products should be available at the site - and office buildings were suggested as a concept. A first step is now being taken, with more to follow."

With innovations and investments, the company is setting an example with its new office and service building. The building will certainly be an eye-catcher; seven storeys with a total area of around 8,500 square meters, the corners slightly shaped as towers. The facade is to be a novelty in Karlsruhe, with attractive color concepts and green roofs, as architect Bastian Wieland from "Archis Architekten" explains. Furthermore, there will be a new system for heating, cooling and ventilation, and more spacing in the rooms, "which is especially important these days - and we are also planning a flexible design," says Wieland.
About half of the rentable space has already been taken, Martin Scheibner, head of the "Dreßler Bau" branch in Rastatt, is pleased to report: "The move is a logical step for us, after all, many of our employees come from KIT and other universities in Karlsruhe - and we also work closely with the universities".
The outer parts of the building are scheduled for completion in the spring of 2021. The complex could be ready for occupation in 2022.
