The price of Chinese cabbage continues to rise in Poland, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. The project experts believe that the reason for this rise is a general decline in the crop's production in Polish farms, as well as a seasonal reduction in the supply of this product.
At the moment, wholesale prices for Chinese cabbage on the Polish market stand at $ 0.62-0.70 / kg, which is 26% more expensive than at the end of the previous working week.
Market participants link the jump in prices to the beginning of the off-season period, with mid-season varieties gradually disappearing from the market and growers planning to start harvesting late ones in early September. However, according to producers, it isn't worth hoping for a price reduction in early autumn. A slight decline is possible only at the start of the harvesting campaign; after that, the price will only rise.
At the moment, market participants are already concerned about the prospects for the Chinese cabbage harvest, as due to the heat and dry weather in the current season the gross yield will be much lower than last year.
In any case, it is worth noting that despite the price rise, Chinese cabbage on Polish farms is still 23% cheaper on average than in the same period last year.
