Fire destroys horticultural warehouse in Spanish province of Cadiz

A fire has destroyed the fruit and vegetable warehouse of the Cadiz-based company Mercado Rivera, located in the municipality of Chipiona, forcing the direct sale of the company's fruit and vegetable products to be transferred to its cut flower facilities.

The mayor of Chipiona, Luis Mario Aparcero, has said to be "deeply saddened by this unfortunate and fatal fire, which has destroyed the warehouse of this important company from Chipiona." Aparcero has told the owners of Mercado Rivera "that the municipality is willing to help in whatever way possible."

The mayor also said that the Agriculture Delegation of the City Council will carry out "an assessment to determine the damage that the agricultural sector may suffer after this unfortunate event."

For his part, the vice president of the Government of Andalusia, Juan Marín, has expressed his "concern" about what happened, highlighting that it is the company of "a family that has been supplying cut flowers and fruit and vegetable products for more than 40 years.” The politician shared a message of "encouragement to all the workers" on social media.
