The global market for agricultural products suffered from the outbreak of Covid-19 in early 2020. The pandemic created obstacles for distribution, a shortage of workers, and severely weakened consumer power. Many agricultural products encountered sales difficulties and the prices went down. Many farmers have had to abandon their harvest because the selling price is so far below the cost price that selling would incur greater loss than leaving the crops in the ground. Farmers suffered immense financial losses.

However, while many agricultural products sold poorly, the export conditions of Chinese potatoes actually improved. Not only did the export price increase in comparison with last year, but the export volume also expanded. The market conditions are much greater than in previous years. There are several reasons for this development. China has a grip on the Covid-19 pandemic and the situation seems stable at the moment. At the same time, the situation in other countries is still quite severe. Pakistan and India, for example, are still struggling, which has had a huge impact on their potato export market. Overseas customers have shifted their attention to China instead, which brings new commercial opportunities for Chinese potato farmers.
