Rick Marwitz (mirontell) & Daniel Heidenreich (DACHSER SE) on ultra-fresh logistics:

"Logistician at the center of supply assignments"

The past few months have posed a very special challenge for the fruit and vegetable trade. Reliable delivery during the crisis period caused many traders great concern. For convenience food producer mirontell, however, this concern was unfounded, according to Rick Marwitz from the sales department of mirontell fein & frisch AG: "Even in the weeks of the shutdown, we were always able to rely on our partner, Dachser."

The manufacturer has been working with the logistics provider for several years now: "We wanted to reposition ourselves logistically and in Dachser we have found a partner who offers us the best service: Dachser is highly flexible and very efficient, across the entire requirement profile," Marwitz continues. "This is also necessary in the ultra-fresh category."

"There are several important variables in food transport: shipment size, temperature, recipient, delivery time," explains Marwitz. "The biggest challenges for ultra-fresh items, such as our fruit salads, are a high delivery frequency and the shortest possible delivery times. The special demand for freshness of the goods requires an extremely fast and stable supply chain. The caterer needs his goods reliably the next day. We see this reliability in our logistics service provider and appreciate it very much".

Marwitz also emphasises how important it is to have a logistics provider with an all-round package that also works when the trolley is not full.

A unique selling point of Dachser's Berlin-Brandenburg logistics centre are the Sunday shipments, from which mirontell also benefits. In this way, a top quality product is always guaranteed. This was an important factor in the past months of uncertainty.

Daniel Heidenreich, head of the Food Logistics business unit at the Berlin-Brandenburg logistics centre, feels that the cooperation has also been successful during the corona pandemic: "As a logistics provider, Dachser always sees itself as a central element of the economy's supply mandate - also and especially in times of crisis. Several times a day, we therefore keep our customers up to date on transport-related events and effects. Thanks to our comprehensive, robust network, we have been able to secure the supply chains throughout. At no time was there a supply bottleneck, as consumers and retailers had feared," he says.

Marwitz agrees with Heidenreich: "There have been serious volume slumps in the industry, and of course we too have had to cut back a little. Dachser responded flexibly to our needs and continued to deliver our goods reliably. And that even when our volumes were sometimes smaller than originally agreed."
