The harvest of grapes marketed under Dona Uva, the brand of the Portuguese Table Grape Organization Frutalmente, started earlier this week in the Western and Ribatejo regions. The organization expects about 3 million kilos of fruit to be harvested over the three months that the campaign will last. The first of the 8 varieties to be marketed will be the Cardinal, a crunchy grape with a light, refreshing flavor.
“The start of the harvest is one of the most anticipated moments for all the producers and workers of Frutalmente. This is the time when we see the results of the work carried out throughout the year looking after our vineyards,” says Mário Rodrigues, executive director of Frutalmente.
The grapes marketed under the Dona Uva brand are grown in the open ground, without the use of greenhouses or plastics, on an area of about 200 hectares. The organization will invest 4 million Euro to expand the acreage in 2022 and modernize its infrastructure.
"Five star" table grapes
This year, Dona Uva won the Portuguese "Cinco Estrelas" award in the Fruit category for the second consecutive year. The brand of table grapes 100% produced in Portugal stood out for the product's freshness, appearance, flavor and sweetness and reached a satisfaction rate of 78.1%, above the result achieved in the 2019 edition (77.5%).
