Holy Fresh entered into an agreement with cooperative partners Pagoda and the Guangxi Agricultural Investment Group. The companies invested together in a standardized international distribution center for agricultural products. The distribution center is located in Laibin City, Guangxi. The project also includes a comprehensive national and international supply chain system, the largest in the country. The system provides supply chain services for post-harvest processing, distribution, storage, packaging, import and export, supermarkets, fruit chain stores, and e-commerce platforms.
Mr. Liao, the CEO of Holy Fresh briefly introduced the project, "The foundation for this entire project is an orange orchard of more than 667 hectares that belongs to the Guangxi Agricultural Investment Group. The project further relies on the formidable supply system of Holy Fresh, which integrates production areas, buyers, and suppliers.
"The distribution center makes use of the latest technology from China, including automated digital selection equipment, to create an environment where employees and machines work together in the most efficient way. There are 6 double selection lines, or a total of 12 laser-guided selection lines. These selection lines have the capacity to process more than 400 tons of fruit per day. The laser-guided selection equipment measures the brix in oranges, categorizes fruit based on size, ranks the fruit based on smooth and glossy appearance, and rejects fruit based on scars, spots, fungus, and other types of damage.
"The automated selection lines measure fruit based on the specific requirements from each client to ensure that the fruit satisfies the needs of different customers. Employees of the distribution center record every step of the production process in detail, from plantation and harvest methods, harvest time, sweetness and bitterness of the fruit, the outside appearance, diameter, and weight of the fruit, the packaging method, post-harvest pre-cooling, storage temperature, and refrigerated distribution management, all the way to retail services and follow-up. Industry specialists study these details carefully to further improve services and create the most standardized supply chain system for oranges. They work hard to spread these standards to the rest of the industry and even export them to the rest of the world."
"The service center occupies an area of 5 hectare. The expected investment was around 120 million yuan [17.18 million USD]. The center is expected to process around 30-40 thousand tons of oranges every year. The site for this project was inspected in February, and the distribution center began operations in June, in a record time of only four months. This project enjoyed the enthusiastic support of the Laibin City government, Guangxi Agricultural Investment Group, and Shenzhen-based Pagoda," said Mr. Liao.
"This project would not have been such a success without the more than 4,000 Pagoda stores across the country or the uninterrupted supply of top-quality fruit products that meet the high standards of Pagoda. Together we satisfy Chinese consumer need for delicious fruit. At the same time, we also hope learn from Pagoda's high standards for delicious fruit and spread the standardization in the Chinese orange industry across our borders to the international orange industry."
The construction of this distribution center also serves another purpose. "We hope to help the Guangxi orange farmers solve their problem with unmarketable conditions by using our retail contacts with supermarkets, fruit chain stores, and wholesale markets throughout the country, as well as e-commerce platforms," said Mr. Liao. "The distribution center can help the people in Laibin City to improve their efficiency and increase their income. We do our best to help people rise from poverty. This distribution center offers 300-800 jobs and further brings a considerable profit to companies in the orange industry."
