The Coscia pear campaign has just started with the first quantities harvested in Ribera (AG). Parlapiano fruit has been producing and selling this summer fruit for years. FreshPlaza talked about the campaign with sales and marketing manager Paolo Parlapiano.
"There are no problems - fruits are well-developed and organoleptic quality is truly great this year, so we are confident the campaign will be positive with high prices, although it is still too early to talk about quotations. After all, it is a niche product that consumers have learned to look for from mid-July onward."
"The campaign will continue until September thanks to the exceptional soil and weather conditions. The fruit is destined mainly to the domestic market and to supermarket chains or wholesale markets in particular."
An unrivaled product
"We cannot say we are the only ones to produce pears this time of year but, if we talk about competition from abroad, and from Spain in particular, we can say we have no rivals when it comes to flavor, texture, shelf-life and health. Italian consumers, who are probably more demanding, continue to prefer our products."
There are various packaging solutions available. Grades 45-50 are placed in 1 kg, 500 g and 750 g punnets or 30x40x17 cardboard crates (each crate contains up to 10 punnets). Grades 50-55 are placed loose in 30x40x17 cardboard boxes weighing around 8kg. Grades 55-60 and 60-65 are placed in 40x60x9.5 boxes weighing around 6kg (40 to 44 fruits).
