After the market for limes had been overloaded for several weeks, there have been drastically fewer arrivals from Brazil and Mexico in recent weeks, says Marcel Verdellen of Satori Holland. "As a result, the price has found its way up again. We are currently at a level around 5.50-6 Euro, but we are moving away from 3 Euro and lower."
"Most of the old stock will now be off the market and I expect importers to deliver the new arrivals now," continues Marcel. He says that the Corona crisis has had a significant impact on sales. "Many limes find their way to the catering industry, which is still experiencing a lot of damage, even though the holiday period is very different for most people."
He expects the overseas shippers to be reserved with sending limes. "Hopefully this will cause a shortage in the market. Because, for me at least, I will be taking it very easy with the import, because in recent weeks there was no money to be made from the limes."
