Donnalia brand fruit continues reaping the rewards of success

A good vintage for Sicilian apricots

"After two dark years, this year the apricot season is finally coming to the light." This was the comment by the Di Pasquale brothers, owners of the Società Agricola Di Pasquale Srl based in Delia in the province of Caltanissetta.

Vincenzo e Angelo Di Pasquale

"2020 has certainly been a special year for many, perhaps too many, different factors - said Angelo and Vincenzo Di Pasquale - First of all, the coronavirus has been, and still is, affecting the markets, because it is changing the purchasing trends and the final choices are geared towards our national product. The Italian quality, also known as Made in Italy, is, today more than ever, a key factor in the decision-making process during the purchase of fruit and vegetables. If in the past Italian branded products were associated with high quality only in some sectors, for example in the manufacturing industry, now even fresh fruit and vegetables have become a synonym of guarantee and food safety."

Apricots

"This year the season kicked off on May 10th with the first apricots," continued the brothers, "and now we are at 90% of the campaign. We have almost reached a stage that allows us to make assessments and draw up the first balance sheets. On the one hand, we have a 30% drop in yields, with prices in the countryside that still vary from 0,50 to 1,00 euro/kg; on the other hand, we have a 40% increase in prices compared to last year."

Apricots

"The first phase of the campaign was characterized by a high presence of competitive Spanish products" said the experts. However, in the first days of June we had no difficulties, neither on the commercial front, nor for consumption."

Nectarines

"Thanks to its efforts we can say that Donnalia - declared with a pinch of pride the Di Pasquale brothers - has been once again the queen of apricots this year, with an increasingly significant customer retention who now buy our product on a regular basis."

"In addition, a few days ago, we also launched with peaches and nectarines in small volumes and they will be equally successful among our business partners, who are increasingly inclined towards our brand because of the appreciation it receives among end consumers. These references also are showing a decrease in yields on trees of around 20%, but with excellent production quality. The Donnalia peach and nectarine campaign will be in full swing in 15 days."
