France: Demand for onions is lower than usual

Although this is not the time of year when the demand for onions usually is at its highest, the current consumption is nevertheless lower than usual. The market has been very calm for the past month. “It could be the downside of the health crisis, during which sales were good. French onions, as well as imported products, were in great demand. For the foreign origins, we were not bothered at all by the fact that the French origin was promoted in many stores,” explains an importer-exporter.

The potato market is holding steady
On the potato market, the situation is slightly more positive. “For the new harvest, the quality and the prices are good. However, the situation is getting more complicated for the potatoes from the previous harvest. The quality is not always there anymore. But this is not surprising, given that they were harvested in September or October.”
