New season Chinese seedless grapes see better quality

"The new crop of seedless grapes from Turpan will hit the market in mid-July and be supplied through to the end of September. The production this year is on par with last year. In addition, the overall fruit quality is better than in previous years,” Mr. Qiu Baodong of Hainan Jingpeng Group said.

"A few years ago, seedless grapes from Turpan mainly ended up in the processing industry and were sold as raisins. In recent years, this variety has entered the table grape market and its sales have been very good each year.”

“The smooth sales of this variety is mainly due to its unique taste. Especially, the large temperature differences between day and night in the producing area give it better sweetness. Secondly, the seedless nature of the fruit helps consumption. Moreover, thanks to the large  scale of the plantation in Turpan, the market price of this variety is not high and high quality, combined with low prices, is one of the important criteria for consumers when making a purchase.”

"This year, under the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic, the overall price of the new crop falls by more than 30% compared to the previous season. We sell the grapes to high-end supermarkets across China by using traditional sales channels and producing the fruit by order. We are not considering E-commerce for the time being, which is mainly based on considerations regarding logistics, especially when goods from Xinjiang are not easy to be shipped as they need to go through transit points which lead to high costs of delivery for e-commerce.”
