New zucchini variety for raw consumption to be cultivated in greenhouses of El Ejido

In a recent visit to the facilities of the Cohorsan cooperative, owned by Unica Group, the mayor of El Ejido, Francisco Góngora, had the chance to take a first-hand look at the new projects of this important El Ejido-based company.

The mayor was accompanied by the president of Cohorsan, Juan Tomás Cano; the manager, Ángel García; the councilor for Agriculture, Francisco Pérez; the councilor for Urbanism, Germán Arqueros; as well as by part of the Governing Board and the president of the Local Board of San Agustín, Francisco Esteban.

Góngora highlighted “the excellent development of this cooperative, which has become a leader in the production of some vegetables, such as cucumbers and zucchini. It has undoubtedly managed to stand out with the snack-type varieties and has all the quality, food safety and traceability certifications with maximum guarantees."

The mayor of El Ejido also got to learn about the new variety that the cooperative is launching: the Crü zucchini, which is eaten raw.

Cohorsan is a cooperative devoted to the production and marketing of fruit and vegetables. In addition to Almería cucumbers, it cultivates zucchini, melons (in spring-summer) and snack cucumbers. In fact, Unica Group is the largest producer of this variety in Europe.

Due to its considerable growth in recent years, its facilities were expanded in the 2016-2017 campaign with larger cold rooms and loading and unloading docks, providing also services for carriers.
