There are many varieties of peach in Sichuan, which are marketed from the end of May and early June through to mid-August. Currently, Zhongtao No. 9, Golden Honey, and May Crisp have left the market and some other varieties are in their peak sales season.
“The price this season is about 3-5 yuan/half a kilo, which is 1-2 yuan lower than the same period last year,” Tan, Manger of My Rural Agricultural Science and Technology Co., Ltd. said.
“The price is lower for two reasons. First, the weather in Sichuan this year is very hot, which has led the fruit to ripen prematurely and advanced the marketing window for about half a month. In addition, there are many varieties on the market and the supply exceeds the demand, which lowers the price. Secondly, after the Covid-19 outbreak, the consumption power has not fully recovered and sales are not as good as in previous years."
"In addition to honey peaches, we also have dozens of mu in our center dedicated to flat peaches. Flat peaches from Sichuan usually become available in late July. However, affected by the hot weather, they should be ready for picking in mid-July this year. Recently, many areas in Sichuan and Chongqing have suffered from torrential rains, but our orchid in the Qingbaijiang District in Chengdu hasn’t been greatly affected and the operation is still normal,” the manager said.
"The market situation for flat peaches is yet not easy to predict, but as our production is not large and we have stable shipping channels, I’m not worried about slow sales."
The product export center of My Rural Science and Technology is located in Sichuan Province, with an area of more than 2,000 mu. The company’s products are sold to 13 countries and regions. In addition to peaches, the company also offers mangoes, pears, and winter jujubes.
