In the Bas-Rhin, several vegetable producers have been severely affected by the stormy weather on June 26th. In Pfaffenhoffen, north of Strasbourg, the 20 minutes of hail had enough time to damage several farms.
“We have some real damage on two hectares where the crops are young, so we will have consequences until October,” explains Marion Weissenburger, producer. Most of the crops are affected. “The salads that were ready to be harvested have been chopped on the spot.”
Last weekend, the consequences were not visible on the shelves, but according to Marion Weissenburger, this will be felt later with reduced stocks.
The storm even affected the Alsace region, where about 50 firefighters had to intervene.
