According to the most recent information published by the French Interprofessional Organization for Potato Cultivation (CNPT) and the French Association of Potato Growers (UNPT), the potato acreage in France has expanded by 1.4% in 2020 compared to the previous season. This year, it stands at 154,900 hectares.
Last year's figure, when 152,710 hectares were planted, already entailed an increase of 2.1% compared to 2018.
The most notable increases correspond to Upper Normandy, with 900 additional hectares, and Champagne-Ardenne, with 550 additional hectares.
Nord-Pas de Calais and Picardy account for almost two thirds of the acreage. In Nord-Pas de Calais, the acreage has expanded by 0.9%, to 57,300 hectares, while Picardy's has been slightly reduced, down by 0.4% to 40,800 hectares.
