Jérôme Jausseran, Force Sud:

France: return of the demand for melons this week

“Since the nice weather came back all over France, melon consumption has started again,” reports Jérôme Jausseran, president of Force Sud, group of melon, watermelon, strawberry and salad producers. “Between the 2nd and the 15th of June, melon consumption had stopped, but after the 15th of June, the situation improved. Since the beginning of the week, the demand has really returned.”

Besides the nice weather, the demand is also favored by the good quality of the melons. “French melons, just like Spanish melons, are in very good phases in terms of taste. We are really pleased with the overall quality of the products.”

Segmentation
This year at the beginning of April, the company Rouge Gorge du Poitou, former French melon leader, sold its “Le Rouge Gorge” brand to Force Sud. For the group based in the Hérault, it mostly makes a difference in terms of segmentation. “This segmentation is essential to maintain coherent prices, in order to achieve comfortable incomes for the producers,” explains Jérôme.

The Force Sud team

Force Sud brings together 5 families of producers. Together, they produce about 20,000 tons of melons per year.
