Yunnan is often praised as the "province of 100 fruits". The varied weather conditions in Yunnan are suitable for year-round production of many different fruits. The province is without a doubt a fruit paradise. There are around 140 different types of fruit tree and they account for nearly 62% of all the different types of fruit tree in China.
The Yunnan Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs recently signed a strategic agreement with Shenzen Pagoda Group. The two parties will cooperate in the development of the fruit and vegetable industry in Yunnan and work together to further promote modernization in the agricultural industry.
Now that the agreement is signed, Pagoda will begin to invest in the overall development of the fruit industry in Yunnan. Pagoda will first focus on the strawberry industry. The company will invest in the cultivation of strawberry seedlings that are suitable for plantation in the alpine production areas of Lijiang City.
Pagoda will also promote fruits from Yunnan in all the Pagoda stores across the country under the banner "Yunnan Products". This will hopefully establish a strong brand for characteristic fruits and vegetables from Yunnan.
Pagoda will also construct facilities in the upper reaches of the Yangzi River where fruit can be selected, packaged, stored, and distributed across the country in refrigerated containers. The facilities have a processing capacity of more than ten thousand tons. Pagoda will also construct other post-harvest processing facilities in Yunnan and promote the use of advanced technology in the agricultural industry.
Furthermore, the company intends to establish at least 2-3 large-scale organic plantations that cover at least 667 hectares each. And finally, Pagoda will promote the use of the "BLOF" organic plantation system, and construct factories that will produce organic fertilizer.
The strategic agreement between Pagoda and Yunnan provides a framework for cooperation, and is based on the extensive involvement of Pagoda in the banana industry in Yunnan. Bananas are one of the most important fruits in the Chinese market.
