Price of Chinese peaches reaches a low point

The market conditions for Chinese peaches have not been great so far. That is mainly the result of extreme weather conditions and the outbreak of Covid-19. The early-season greenhouse peaches from Anhui suffered the most from these developments. The sales volume is much smaller than last year. The heart of the peach market is in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, but the sales volume declined there as well. Furthermore, the poor market conditions of greenhouse peaches had a direct impact on the asking price of open-field peaches.

The peach production volume was quite large this year. The overall surface area devoted to the plantation of yellow peaches greatly expanded, and so did the production volume. A large volume of yellow peaches flooded the market, which put pressure on the price. Furthermore, these peaches can not survive storage for very long, which means that they easily spoil unless they are sold quickly.

Owners of processing factories did not have much faith in the peach price this year. The overall surface area devoted to peach plantation expanded and the production volume per hectare also increased. That is why the price was not expected to remain very high. People everywhere predicted that the price would drop below last year's levels. The production volume is large and the order volume is small, which is why people have very little faith in the peach market right now.

Peaches are mainly sold in cans, as candied fruit, or as quick-frozen fruit. The demand for candied peaches is quite high this year. However, the yellow peach variety is most suitable to be sold in cans or as quick-frozen fruit. Furthermore, there are still many yellow peaches in storage leftover from last year. The order volume is therefore small, because owners of processing factories are not at all enthusiastic. The outbreak of Covid-19 further exacerbated the situation. Many processing factory owners wait and see how the market will develop. They will not start processing yellow peaches unless the price reaches its lowest point.
