Last Saturday, a post office in the German city of Schweinfurt had to be evicted due to the intense smell of a package that arrived there. A dozen of the 60 employees who were inside the building required medical treatment.
Police, fire, and emergency services were summoned to the office to examine the suspicious package. Inside the package, they found four durians, a fruit with a foul odor that a 50-year-old resident of the city had sent to a friend's house in Nuremberg, as reported by CNN.
"Since the content of the package was initially unknown, it was unclear if it presented a major risk," the Schweinfurt Police Department said in a statement.
Durian, which has a very sweet flavor, emits a foul smell. So much so, that in many countries in Southeast Asia it is prohibited to carry it in elevators, public transport, and closed places.
