5000 tons of vegetables from Hebei arrived in Beijing. The vegetables from outside the capital are transferred when they enter the city, to minimize the risk of spreading Covid-19. The number of cases in the capital is steadily rising, so outside suppliers have increased the speed of their deliveries to make sure that the "food basket" of the capital is full and the price remains stable.
Almost 80% of the agricultural products in Beijing markets come from outside the city. The Xinfadi Wholesale Market used to supply around 70% of the capital's fruit and vegetable products, before this second outbreak of Covid-19 took place. The market also supplied about 10% of the capital's pork and 3% of the beef and mutton. The market trades about 19 million kg of vegetables per day.
The municipal bureau of commerce announced that chain stores and supermarkets have more than enough supplies in reserve. The product variety is rich and supply is stable. At the same time, 18 chain stores have promised to fix the price of 10 types of vegetables that are vital for the daily diet of Beijing residents. They will not raise the price for one month.
