"Market conditions bounce back from low point"

"Chinese garlic price shows slight increase in June"

"The export season of fresh Chinese garlic officially began in late May. The current export price is lower than around this time last year. The price is expected to show sizable fluctuations this year. Traders with storage space are eager to purchase fresh garlic." This is according to Mr. Lee of Pioneer Garlic Group.

Workers select garlic

"The production volume of garlic expanded this year in comparison with last year. The production volume increased by more than 15%. Even though production areas across the country suffered from extreme weather conditions in the last few months, still, the weather had only limited influence on the garlic harvest. The product quality is good this year. The garlic is quite big. And the outside looks good."

Garlic

"There is still a large amount of old garlic in storage. The low price of fresh garlic puts a lot of pressure on the sales of old garlic. The trade volume of old garlic is rapidly growing smaller. Traders who sell their stock now will suffer financial loss. That is why many traders are waiting for the right opportunity to sell their old garlic."

Workers select garlic

"The price of garlic quickly dropped in the last month or so, but at the moment the market seems to bounce back from a low point. I believe the price of garlic will show an upward trend in June. This is because the low price strengthens the position of Chinese garlic in the international market, which in turn stimulates overseas demand, and when the export volume grows, the price will rise as well. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has created significant risk for exporters and importers across the globe, because the number of shipping operations is reduced, storage space is scarce, and distribution is more difficult than before."

Garlic

"We mainly export Chinese garlic to Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Turkey, and the EU. We focus on developing markets in South America and Europe. We supply white garlic and purple garlic, based on the requirements of our customers. Turkey and the EU have recently expressed a particularly high demand for white garlic."
