"Onion export prices around 20% lower than last year"

“The Covid-19 outbreak that has been ongoing since the Spring Festival has had a great impact on the fruit and vegetable industry this year. On the one hand, factors such as a shortage in harvest workers and poor logistics brought by regional lockdowns have led to the slow operation of the industrial chain. On the other hand, The general decline in consumers’ purchasing power has hindered sales,” said Mr. Xue Cuncai of Jinxiang County Cuncai Agricultural Trade Co., Ltd.

Farmers harvesting onions

"As far as the onion market is concerned, there is a notable oversupply and prices are stable but rather low. Due to Covid-19, overall sales have shrunk and the export market has been sluggish. The current export prices have fallen by about 20% compared with the same period last year. In particular, the sales volume of red flat onions from Shandong which were popular in previous years has decreased significantly compared to last year, not to mention products from Hebei and Henan which see very little interest.”

Onions

"We supply various varieties of red and yellow onions all year round and sort and package them according to the requirements of our customers. On top of selling our products to wholesale markets and supermarkets across China, we also export them to South Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the United States."
