A new product line to grill vegetables and the construction of the new Arpor 2 centre are the latest projects that Orogel is currently implementing and constructing in Policoro (Matera). It is by investing and laying the foundations for the future that the crisis can be overcome. "A total of 30 million euros will be invested until 2023," said the director of Orogel, Giancarlo Foschi.

"After an extremely prolonged artichoke campaign," explained Gianmario Massocchi of the Arpor cooperative, which is part of the Orogel group, "we got started with the summer vegetables, the core of our production in Basilicata. That being said, the new line of grilled vegetables is in the process of being created and the new grill will be combined with a new freezer" which will ensure the production of frozen vegetables within a few hours from the harvest.
Orogel's investments don't stop there. The projects for the Arpor 2 centre, currently in progress, are also being funded by the Basilicata Region. " More specifically," said Massocchi, "it consists of a new packaging warehouse, a room for packaging, a new 18,000 cubic metre refrigerated storage cell and a co-generator for the production of electricity.
The packaging warehouse will be fully stocked to improve the space optimization. The packaging plant will ensure that all the vegetables harvested in the area can be packaged without moving to other locations, and the new storage cell will be vital. There have been slowdowns due to the health crisis, "but we are now fully operational and I believe that in September we will be able to use the new cell."
