Antioquia Prosecutor's Office could investigate the Bananerasd e Uraba company for abandoning lands

At the request of Antioquia's Superior Court, the Prosecutor's Office will investigate the Bananeras de Uraba SA company for the abandonment of lands that had to be returned to their owners, even though the delivery procedures are currently suspended due to the health emergency.

The Forjando Futuros foundation assured via a statement that the high court had described this decision as an act of indifference, cruelty, and neglect. "Bananeras de Uraba abandoned its banana crops without fumigation or fertilizer without taking into account the deep environmental impact that this could cause due to the presence of the Fusarium oxysporum plague in the area," the foundation stated.

Forjando Futuros added that the Antioquia's Superior Court had considered that this action contradicted the judicial order of restitution of March 12, 2020, because the company must manage and protect these properties until they can be restituted, and now the applicants will receive the properties in total abandonment and in phytosanitary risk.

According to the foundation, the Prosecutor's Office found the possible occurrence of at least two criminal behaviors in this case for fraud to the judicial resolution and the damage that this could cause to the environment.
