Avocado consumption in Spain expected to grow by 20%

The World Avocado Organization (WAO) has welcomed World Avocado Month, which takes place every year in June, for the third consecutive year in Spain. This 2020 is also expected to be a record year for The fruit of Life, with a 20% increase in its consumption in this country compared to the previous year.

This year, the WAO is also bringing the concept of comfort food to Spain. This term refers to those foods that have a nostalgic or sentimental value and which are usually characterized by having a high calorie content. But unlike other comfort foods, avocados contain beneficial nutrients, especially monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are healthy fats.

The World Avocado Organization is celebrating World Avocado Month in Spain and is renewing its collaboration with retailer Eroski for the third consecutive year, following the great successes of previous editions. Outside of Spain, World Avocado Month will take place in many European countries, especially in France, at Carrefour (the largest supermarket chain in Europe); in Italy, at Carrefour and CONAD, two of the most important supermarket chains in the country; in Finland, at Kesko; in Sweden, at ICA; in Germany, at Edeka, and in the Netherlands, at Jumbo. One of the main innovations this year is that World Avocado Month is going to be celebrated in Russia, one of the markets with the greatest potential for The fruit of Life.

The WAO is also launching its website in Spanish, avocadofruitoflife.com, where the fruit's lovers can find information on the nutritional values and properties of avocados, as well as information on where it is harvested or recipes of all kinds.

Another clear sign that 2020 is going to be a great year for avocados is the fact that the fruit's supply worldwide will be guaranteed in the summer season. Peru and South Africa, two of the largest exporters (mainly during the summer months in Europe) guarantee the distribution in Europe of this 21st century superfood.
