The department of water and sanitation has urged Gauteng residents to use water sparsely after the Vaal Dam’s level dropped to 48%. Last year in the same period the dam was at 70% full.
Water rationing was also announced at the beginning of the week in Hankey and Patensie in the Eastern Cape, with the Kouga Dam at 9%. Water is switched-off daily from 9:00 to 15:00. Water tanks have been installed.
The South African Weather service warns of heavy rainfall this week that is expected to lead to flooding along the coast and adjacent inland of the Northern Cape as well as the western parts of the Western Cape.
