Costa Rica and Brazil will work together in the fight against banana pests

Costa Rica's National Banana Corporation (CORBANA) signed a cooperation and research agreement with Brazil's Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) with the aim of promoting scientific research in the search for solutions that protect banana and plantain crops against diseases such as Fusarium R4T and Black Sigatoka.

“CORBANA and EMBRAPA have been coordinating efforts to develop varieties that are resistant against the Fusarium Foc R4T, one of the main threats to banana plantations, and Black Sigatoka. This important joint effort will help to solve a very large threat to the global stability of the banana industry,” stated Alberto Vilarinhos of EMBRAPA and Jorge Sauma of CORBAN.
